The Tonda Italian Story

Located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, Tonda Italian captures the nostalgia of southern Italy, with a menu that will surprise the senses and bring authenticity to the flavours in every bite.

In 2017 we established our Preston Italian restaurant with these guiding principles in mind. Tonda is not just a restaurant, it is a place where people gather and relationships are nurtured. We have created a warm, charming and inclusive environment with vivid colours that express a classy and modern spirit. We welcome larger groups; private events and our catering team would love to serve you at home or at your office.

At Tonda Italian, we love Australian seafood. Hand picking fresh, locally caught seafood makes all the difference on the plate. We only source sustainably caught seafood and crustaceans.

Liza Russo

Restaurant Owner

Liza Russo is one of Melbourne’s preeminent restaurateurs and industry personalities. She started her restaurateur journey over 20 years ago in the back streets of North Fitzroy at Rubiras Restaurant. There she learned the finer aspects of serving seafood cuisine. She then moved to Collins Street in Melbourne CBD and has now landed in Preston! Liza’s inspiration comes from her travels through southern Italy, compiling her visions and creativity to create Tonda Italian. Liza brings her heritage and passion for fresh ingredients into each dish.

Rebecca Chick

Restaurant Manager

Rebecca started her career in Hospitality and Hotel Management studies 20 years ago. She then worked in the export industry exporting Australia’s best food produce all over the world. Soon after, she returned to the front of house when Tonda Italian restaurant launched. She ensures that restaurant operations run smooth; all day, every day. Rebecca puts everything she loves about hospitality into creating a memorable restaurant experience that has her guests coming back for more.

Francesco & Rose

Pappa and Mumma of Tonda Italian

Pappa Francesco and Mamma Rose embody the rich heritage and fabric of the Tonda Italian family. On a typical day, at 3am you will find Francesco prepping ingredients, baking bread and making fresh gnocchi for the day’s festivities.

Guests come far and wide to indulge in Mamma Rose’s signature Pink Pavlova, made daily with love. In the evening, Rose moonlights behind the bar serving up the most amazing cocktails. Drop in and say hi!
